Training On Regional Flood Outlook and Hydrological Modelling

Last Friday I had completed training on "Regional Flood Outlook and Hydrological Modelling" organized by ICIMOD in Kathmandu.
Objective of training was to share the concepts and tools used in regional flood outlook and flood modelling.  Details of the hydrological and hydrodynamic models were shown. Main aim was to train participants in such a way that they will be able to initiate development of basin specific mathematical models for their own countries.

Participants from different countries were invited to shear knowledge, (Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India). Different models (one and two dimensional modelling) were introduced (NAM, MIKE11, MIKE22) able to simulate both low and High flow in streams during monsoon and dry seasoins.

It was good experience now I come to know another model which is able to simulate discharge during flood and it is also used for future forecasting of flood. It’s an amazing model designed by DHI, not only for the rainfall runoff simulation but also able to simulate contribution of Snow and Ice from a glaciated basin, need few input variables and parameters (9) and very easy to understand. However it’s a lump model but need to divide the whole river basin into number of sub-basins to capture variation in flow within the entire basin

Thanks ICIMOD for organizing training on such a crustal topic and providing opportunity to work with expertise from all around the world in great environment. It was very helpful to understand the Hydrodynamics of river.

In Hotel Green Valley Resort my room was in 3rd floor and i was shearing my porch with a pair of Pigeon......it was amazing....
